TLD, Planning sustainably

Sustainability is not an option, but a must. For many companies, sustainable planning is already an integral part of their self-image - not least to shape their public appearances. Thus, the topic of "sustainable planning" is also becoming increasingly important for events.

Truly sustainable action takes into account not only ecological issues, but also economic and social impacts in equal measure. Modern media planning can make valuable contributions in all three fields - in the sense of corporate responsibility and holistic development goals.

Corporate strategy

Sustainable media planning? For us, sustainable thinking and action begins even before the planning stage.

With all resources ...

Because we take the whole picture into account for every project and every process. In doing so, we are guided by the principles of the UN Global Compact - for example, with regard to health and labor standards or environmental protection topics and social issues. We address these issues in particular in the course of our international activities and cooperations.
Sustainability goals as formulated by the UN (Sustainable Development Goals) also guide our corporate culture and values. They are part of our corporate strategy, and from them we derive options and preferences for our services.

This naturally applies throughout all of TLD's fields of activity.

How we work sustainably

What specifically does TLD do for sustainability? We start with the fundamental aspects of corporate responsibility - ecological, social and economic. Our commitment can be most vividly illustrated in six "activity bundles":

1
Learning

It all starts with knowledge and awareness: We inform, sensitize and train our employees in matters of sustainability. Our teams keep up to date in a targeted manner through training and events.

In addition, we learn as an organization through direct contacts. TLD's dense networking with other planners and agencies is particularly well suited to sharing experiences in sustainability – not infrequently the shortest path to good solutions.

2
Being sustainably mobile

We prefer public transportation such as buses and trains and avoid cars and planes when possible. We use digital meetings and online resources to avoid unnecessary travel. TLD does not operate its own fleet of vehicles, but instead makes use of loan and sharing systems.

3
Sustainable sourcing

Our procurement is focused on sustainable products, for example in office supplies - from the energy efficiency of equipment to environmental paper. We rely on organic products and avoid disposable packaging.

4
Build up logistics

We also apply our principles to our partners, suppliers and the entire associated logistics. We pay attention to the sustainable orientation of service providers. For example, we give preference to those hotels that are committed to sustainability.

5
Creating transparency

We ensure correct working conditions on site for every project and are committed to fairness in competition. In addition, we observe the principles of prevention against corruption.

6
Give impulses

It is part of our self-image to be socially and ecologically committed. Last but not least, we use our contacts to pass on proven approaches - according to the motto "act and talk about it". In this way, we want to encourage partners and customers alike to organize their events in a sustainable manner.

A word about methodology

Part of the sustainable approach is to check the degree of sustainability again and again and to increase it if possible. Our continuous improvement process works according to the PDCA cycle:

Plan - Do - Check - Act

Plan

We analyze, we locate potentials. We set goals and develop processes to realize our ideas of environmental protection and sustainability.

Do

We initially test our optimized, redesigned processes in a subarea or on selected projects.

Check

We evaluate the optimizations, measured against our goals, in practice. We check whether they meet legal and other requirements. We document the result - and, if successful, give the green light for the next phase:

Act

The new specifications become the standard and we ensure that they are adhered to. As soon as further potential becomes apparent, this standard serves as the basis for a new phase 1 - see above.

Planning sustainably

In line with these seven "activity bundles," we have focused our core business on sustainability. What aspects do they bring to bear? This is exemplified by the topic of sustainable lighting design.

At trade shows and events, our aim is to achieve the maximum with careful planning and state-of-the-art materials - while keeping the project's ecological footprint to a minimum. This is particularly worthwhile when it comes to lighting design: after all, lighting is responsible for more than one seventh of global electricity consumption!

Light for quality of life

When it comes to lighting concepts and media planning in general, our extensive experience enables us to set the course for sustainable solutions from the outset.

This begins with the selection of energy-efficient luminaires and the reduction of waste and pollutants. We exclude avoidable light immissions. It goes without saying that in all of this we ensure the best quality of light and illumination that is as pleasant as it is functional.

Example of effective lighting using modern LED technology:

Visual Lichtverschmutzung Old

Luminaires without reflector technology

  • Nocturnal light pollution
  • Steulicht into front gardens and houses
  • Poor efficiency due to scattering losses
Visual Lichtverschmutzung LED

Luminaires with reflector technology/LED technology

  • Less light pollution
  • Low stray light into front yards and houses
  • High efficiency
