BMW at the Red Bull Battle X in Munich

Powerful lightshow for the breakdance battle

At the Red Bull Battle X in Munich, where selected B-boys and B-girls competed in an open breakdance competition, various BMW models were actively integrated into the show. BMW wanted the vehicles to become an important part of the staging through direct, music-synchronized control of the headlights.

To make this technically possible, our pool of experts had to deal with the complex vehicle technology, sensitive vehicle data, interfaces and internal networks, in order to find a way to control the vehicle lighting via a professional lighting console and integrate it into the show. We were always assisted by the BMW M workshop with their best know-how, with whom we found optimal solutions together.

Another challenge were the different car models with their different headlight types, for each of which own modifications had to be developed. The planned use of a high-speed camera for the spectacular super-slow-motion sequences also placed high demands on the flicker-free quality of the lighting.

After various modifications to the spotlights, which we implemented together with the BMW development department, and different solutions for their control, we were able to prove at the dress rehearsal and then finally at the final show on June 8 that we were able to meet all the requirements placed on us with flying colors.
